1. Why is it important to identify safety issues and to safely operate equipment utilized in the classroom?
  • If you don't identify safety issues, someone could could hurt or you yourself could.
  • Safely operate equipment utilized in the class room so you and no one else will get hurt. It won't cause any damage.


2. How do interpersonal and employability skills affect both your everyday life and your future?
  • When you have good interpersonal and employability skills, your life could be much much easier. You would be able to communicate well and get good advances in your jobs.


3. What is graphic design and why is it important to communicate visually?
  • Graphic design is communicating a message through the use of text and images to appeal to your target audience. It is important to communicate visually because there are some language barriers you need to pass and get through sometimes when trying to please people.
4. What are the elements of design and how are they incorporated into a design?
  • Elements of design: line, shape, texture, space, and value


5.  What is a vector-based design and how is it created?
  • A design that uses mathematical equations to create an image. It can use lines, curves, and geometrical shapes. It is created through mathematical formulas.

  • It is a design that is based on mathematical equations. It can be resized over and over from larger to smaller and smaller to larger without looking like bad quality. It is created through mathematical equations.


7. How is color used effectively in a graphic design?

  •  In graphic design, designers use color schemes to help unify designs while also making it interesting. Also, designers utilize colors that go along with emotions to get the right feelings from the viewer(s).


8. What is a raster-based image and how is it created?
  •  Raster-based images are images that are made of pixels. It is created by composing all the tiny little pixels together to form one main image made of all the tiny squares of information combined to one.


9. How does the manipulation of size and resolution effect digital images?
  •  If an image is manipulated correctly, it can still have a good quality and good resolution. If you manipulate a digital image to a greater size, the resolution lessens.
10. How do designers use a page layout program?
  •  They can change the orientation. They can also change where all the headings and titles go. They can change the main fonts and sizes.
 11. What steps does a designer take to design a page lay out from concept to final product?
  •  The Creative Process! 
1) Research- the more you know, the easier the project will be
2) Brainstorm/inspiration- coming up with ideas for a fresh and creative approach
3) Sketch- to get your thoughts out and to work through ideas
4) Execute- implement your ideas; combine type & imagery, into a well developed composition
5) Critique & Revise- take a step back and look at your design with an objective eye

12. What are the key developments in the history of visual communication? How did these developments shape our industry?

  •  One of the first developments is the first written language Cuneiform. It was created to record the business transactions. From here, other alphabets were created. The Phoenicians, Romans, and Greek adapted alphabets.
  • The Gutenberg Press was a life-changing invention. It sped up the creation of books, helped spread information faster, and allowed more people to become literate due to lower costs of books. New kinds of "type" were formed from the printing press through trial and error of other inventors.
  • The development of the camera also a key development in the history of visual communications. It allowed people to capture a moment in time.
  • The invention of the computer also made a HUGE impact on our industry, obviously. It was/is a huge change for our industry because people we were then allowed to get information a lot faster.

14. What is a logotype and how is it created?
  • A logotype is [see post on logotypes] a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition.
  • You can create through Illustrator. :) There are 3 main types of logo designs. The first is the combination mark and it is a combo of an image and words. The next is the icon/iconic symbol and it is just an image, or an iconic symbol/picture that represents what it's made for. The last is the wordmark and it is just the word(s) of the company name.
